After quenching and tempering, chromium has excellent mechanical properties and good hardenability, which makes it often used in the manufacture of high-strength fasteners, bearings, gears, and camshafts. Mechanical properties and hardness testing are very necessary for quenched and tempered 40Cr.
40Cr hardness testing usually uses Rockwell hardness test method and Brinell hardness test method for testing. Because Rockwell hardness tester is fast and convenient to use, it is usually preferred by customers. For small parts or parts requiring higher precision, Vickers hardness tester may also be used.
Usually, the Rockwell hardness of 40Cr after quenching and tempering is usually required to be between HRC32-36, so that it has higher strength and fatigue resistance.
